Steam Workshop mods can add new items, weapons, maps, and features to your Project Zomboid server. This guide covers installing and managing mods.
Finding Workshop Mod IDs
Get the IDs needed to install mods.
- 1Browse the Steam Workshop for Project Zomboid
- 2Find the mod you want to install
- 3Look at the URL: ?id=WORKSHOPID
- 4Copy the Workshop ID (the number)
- 5You'll need this ID for server configuration
Adding Mods to Your Server
Configure your server to download and load mods.
- 1Open Zomboid/Server/servertest.ini
- 2Find the WorkshopItems= line
- 3Add Workshop IDs separated by semicolons
- 4Example: WorkshopItems=1234567890;9876543210
- 5Save the file and restart the server
Tip
- Mod IDs are case-sensitive
- Server downloads mods automatically on start
- Players need the same mods to connect
Enabling Mod Content
Some mods require additional activation.
- 1Some mods also need entries in Mods= line
- 2Check mod description for specific requirements
- 3Format: Mods=ModName1;ModName2
- 4Map mods may need Map= entries
Preserving Mods After Updates
Keep mods working through game updates.
- 1Copy mods to: C:\Users\YourName\Zomboid\mods
- 2Game loads from this folder instead of Workshop
- 3Prevents automatic updates from breaking saves
- 4Manually update when ready
Tip
- This is optional but recommended for stable servers
- Test mod updates on a separate save first
