Wiping your Rust server removes player progress and refreshes the map. This guide explains the different wipe types, forced wipe schedules, and how to perform each type of wipe.
Understanding Wipe Types
Rust has several types of wipes, each affecting different aspects of player progress.
- 1Map Wipe (Server Wipe) - Deletes the map and all bases, but keeps player blueprints
- 2Blueprint Wipe (BP Wipe) - Only deletes learned blueprints, keeps map and bases
- 3Full Wipe - Resets everything including map, bases, and blueprints
- 4Most community servers do weekly map wipes with monthly or forced BP wipes
Forced Wipe Schedule
Facepunch enforces mandatory wipes for all Rust servers.
- 1Forced wipes occur the first Thursday of every month
- 2Times: 11am PST / 2pm EST / 7pm BST
- 3All servers must wipe on this day - it's mandatory
- 4Forced wipes coincide with monthly Rust updates
- 5Blueprint wipes are announced separately in patch notes
Tip
- Plan your wipe schedule around forced wipes
- Many servers also wipe weekly on Thursdays
- Check Facepunch Twitter for BP wipe announcements
Performing a Map Wipe
A map wipe removes the world but keeps blueprints.
- 1Stop your server completely
- 2Navigate to your server identity folder (./server/server_identity/)
- 3Delete all .sav files (procedural_x.sav)
- 4Delete all .map files
- 5Optionally change server.seed for a new map layout
- 6Start your server
Tip
- Backup your server before wiping in case you need to revert
- A new seed creates a completely different map
- Announce wipes to your community in advance
Performing a Blueprint Wipe
A blueprint wipe resets all learned blueprints for players.
- 1Stop your server completely
- 2Navigate to your server identity folder
- 3Delete player.blueprints.*.db files
- 4Start your server
Tip
- BP wipes are less common than map wipes
- Only do BP wipes during forced wipes or when announced
- Players will need to re-learn all blueprints
Full Server Wipe
A complete reset that removes everything.
- 1Stop your server completely
- 2Delete all .sav files
- 3Delete all .map files
- 4Delete all .db files
- 5Consider cleaning up plugin data in /oxide/data/
- 6Start your server
Tip
- Use full wipes for fresh server starts or major resets
- Some plugins store data that persists across wipes
- Check plugin folders for data that should be wiped
Automated Wipes with Loafhosts
If you're hosting with Loafhosts, the LHyper panel includes an automated Server Wiper that handles scheduled wipes for you. No manual file deletion required!
- 1Go to Management > Server Wiper in your LHyper panel
- 2Click 'Create First Wipe Schedule'
- 3Set a name like 'Weekly Thursday Wipe'
- 4Select 'Rust' as the game type for Rust-specific presets
- 5Choose files to delete: use 'Rust Blueprints' preset for BP wipes or 'Player Data' for map wipes
- 6Set commands to run before wipe (e.g., 'say Server wiping in 5 minutes!')
- 7Configure timezone and schedule (weekly on Thursdays)
- 8Review and create your automated wipe schedule
Tip
- Use placeholders like DD, MM, YYYY in server names for dynamic wipe dates
- Rust-specific presets know exactly which files to delete
- Set up multiple schedules: weekly map wipes + monthly BP wipes
- The wiper automatically stops the server, deletes files, and restarts
