Valheim uses text files to manage admins, bans, and permitted players. This guide explains how to configure these files and grant administrative privileges.
Admin List Files Location
Valheim stores admin configuration in text files.
- 1Windows: C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\
- 2Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/
- 3adminlist.txt - Players with admin commands
- 4bannedlist.txt - Banned players
- 5permittedlist.txt - Whitelisted players
Adding Admins
To add admins, you need player Steam64 IDs.
- 1Find the player's Steam64 ID (17-digit number)
- 2Open or create adminlist.txt in the Valheim folder
- 3Add one Steam64 ID per line
- 4Save the file
- 5Restart the server or wait for it to reload
Tip
- Get Steam64 IDs from steamid.io
- Changes may apply immediately or require restart
- Admins can use devcommands and kick/ban players
Managing Bans
Use bannedlist.txt to permanently ban players.
- 1Add Steam64 IDs to bannedlist.txt
- 2One ID per line, no additional text
- 3Banned players cannot connect to the server
- 4Remove IDs from the file to unban
Setting Up a Whitelist
Use permittedlist.txt for private servers.
- 1Create permittedlist.txt in the Valheim folder
- 2Add Steam64 IDs of allowed players
- 3Players not on the list cannot join
- 4Combine with a server password for extra security
Tip
- Leave permittedlist.txt empty or delete it to allow anyone
- Whitelist is additional to password protection
