Open the Map page of your server. It draws the whole world from its seed, with its biomes and its places. It also shows what players built, as of the world’s last save. Turn on the panel tools to see players where they stand. More about the game: Valheim servers.
What the map shows
The map is drawn from the world’s seed, so it shows the whole world, including parts nobody has seen. A place nobody has been to is marked “(nobody has been there yet)”. The page says “Drawing the map from the world’s seed” for a few seconds on first open, then fills in by itself. The line under the world’s name (1) gives the seed and how many places and built pieces the last save holds.

- Players on the map
- A place group
Places
Places are in groups, in the side column (3). You can show or hide each group.
- Sacrificial stones
- Bosses
- Traders
- Hildir’s chests
- Dungeons
- Runestones
Dungeons and Runestones start hidden. There are many of them. Show them when you need them.
What players built and left
These layers come from the world’s last save, not from the live game:
- Portals
- Beds
- Tombstones
- Ships and carts
- Workbenches and wards
- Bases
The page says how many places and built pieces it read, and “from the last save”. Changes in the game show after the next save.
A new world
The game saves a world every 30 minutes by default, and when the server stops. Until a new world’s first save, the page says “The world has not been saved yet.” It shows the world, but not its places or builds. After the first save they appear.
Players on the map
With the panel tools on, each online player is drawn where they stand, and listed under On the map (2) with their health and Follow. Click a player to open their card: what they hold, and the actions to help, move or deal with them. See the Valheim panel tools and teleporting players.

- Give item
- Heal
- Teleport: click the map
Without them, the game tells nobody where its players are. The page lists who is online by name only. Beds and tombstones still show where players have been.
The same page shows the game’s day and time under In game when the tools are on.
Who can see it
A person needs the live map permission (live-map.read) on the server to open the Map. If the page is missing for someone, ask the server’s owner to give their role that permission.
The no map switch
Valheim has a world switch called nomap. It hides the map inside the game for players. Not checked on 1.0.20 as of 21 October 2026: whether the panel’s Map changes on a world with No map on. See Valheim no map.
If it does not work
- “Drawing the map”. Wait a few seconds. The page fills in by itself.
- “The world has not been saved yet”. Wait for the first save, up to 30 minutes by default, or choose Save the world now if the panel tools are on.
- “Some of the save could not be read”. Not everything built is shown. Open the page again after the next save.
- The Map tab is missing. Your role may not include it. Ask the owner.
Not checked on 1.0.20 as of 21 October 2026: how the page behaves on a world with a very large base.
