When a mod has a newer version, its row on the Mods page shows an Update chip with the new version number. Open the menu on the row and choose Update to (version). The server stops, the new files go in, and it starts again. Mods are not updated for you: you choose when.
In the panel
- Open the Mods page. On the Installed tab, look for a chip like Update (version) next to a mod’s name.
- At the right of that row, open the menu (three dots, labelled More for (mod name)).
- Choose Update to (version), with the version shown.
- A box titled Install (mod name)? opens. It lists every mod it will install, with versions and sizes, and it says the server stops and starts again if it was running. Choose Install.
- Wait for the server to start. The row should show Loaded again, and the chip is gone.
Update to (version) works while the server is running. The update only changes that mod and anything it needs. Other mods stay as they are. The switch and Remove in the same menu work only while the server is stopped.
Tell your players
A player who has the mod must update it too. The Satisfactory Mod Manager shows an update notice. See how players install the same mods. Use the For players list on the same page to see the version the server now runs.
After a game update
When Coffee Stain releases a game patch, mods often stop working until their authors update them. The wiki says that most major updates, and any update that changes the engine version, make mods incompatible. Minor patches are less risky. An incompatible mod can stop the game from starting.
The panel warns you before it happens. If Steam has a newer game than your server runs, the Mods page shows: “Steam has a newer version of the game than this server runs. It updates at its next start; mods reported broken or damaged on ficsit.app may stop it starting.”
The mod rows and search cards show the marks from ficsit.app:
- Reported damaged and Reported broken: the people who maintain the mod have marked it as not working properly on the game’s current release.
A mod without one of these chips is not marked. Update the game when the mods you need no longer carry one of those chips.
Hold the update

- The warning
- Hold the update
If a mod you need is marked damaged or broken, choose Hold the update in that warning. The button shows only when Steam has a newer version, the server has at least one mod, and your role may change the startup settings. The server keeps its game version at its next starts. The page then says: “The game update is held. Players who updated their game cannot join until the server updates.”
That is the cost: players who update their game cannot join a held server. Hold only while you wait for the mod. When the mod is ready, update it, then choose Update at the next start to let the game update again. That button shows whenever an update is held.
If it does not work
- There is no Update to in the menu. The row has no Update chip, so the mod is current.
- The server will not start after an update. On the Installed tab, choose Find the mod at the bottom. It tries fewer mods each time and puts every mod back after. Or remove the mod.
- Players cannot join after the update. They have the old version of the mod. They need to update it.
