Change the VEIN max players

Set how many players can join your VEIN server on the Startup page. The default is 16. It applies at the next start, and more players need more memory.

The number of players a VEIN server allows is the Players setting on the Startup page. A new server allows its plan’s player count: 8, 16 or 32 for Small, Standard and Large. Change it, then restart the server. The game reads the number only when it starts.

In the panel

  1. Open the Startup page.
  2. Find Players. Its help line says “How many players can be on at once.”
  3. Type the new number in Players (1). The panel accepts 1 to 64.
  4. Choose Save (2).
  5. Choose Restart at the top right of the server page. To warn players first, use a restart with a warning.

Before every start, the panel writes this number into the game’s Game.ini as MaxPlayers. For that reason the Config Editor does not let you change it. It only shows the number, in the Set by Loafhosts card, and points to where it is set. Change it on Startup only.

The Players page has a Players figure near the top. It reads like 3 / 16: players on now, then the limit. It shows a dash while the server is stopped or still starting.

More players need more memory

Every player on the server uses memory. Ramjet Studios, the makers of VEIN, say that memory needs grow as the number of connected players grows. On a Loafhosts server with nobody on, VEIN used about 3.1 to 3.7 GB. With one player on, it used 4.5 GB.

So do not set a large number just because you can. Pick the number of friends you expect, and watch the memory figure at the top of the server page when the server is busy. If memory runs close to the server’s limit, see VEIN server requirements.

The game has no fixed player cap that Ramjet states. Its own server page shows a start line with -MaxPlayers=64. The panel stops at 64.

If it does not work

  • The Players figure still shows the old limit. The server has not restarted since the change. Choose Restart at the top right of the server page.
  • The number is refused. The panel accepts whole numbers from 1 to 64.
  • The server runs slowly with many players. Lower the number, or see VEIN server requirements.
