To let a player use a plugin command, grant them the plugin’s permission with oxide.grant user <name or SteamID> <permission>. Do it in the server console or over RCON. In the ArthOS panel that is the Console tab. Carbon uses the same idea with c.grant.
A permission only exists if a plugin registers it. The plugin’s uMod page lists them, and oxide.show perms prints every one the server knows.
Grant to one player (Oxide)
Run these in the server console, with no slash:
| What you want | Command |
|---|---|
| Grant a permission | oxide.grant user Wulf epicstuff.use |
| Revoke it | oxide.revoke user Wulf epicstuff.use |
| See what a player has | oxide.show user Wulf |
| See who has a permission | oxide.show perm epicstuff.use |
Use a player’s name or their SteamID. epicstuff.use is the example from the uMod docs. Use the permission from your own plugin.
Grant to a group
A group saves you granting the same thing to many players.
| What you want | Command |
|---|---|
| Make a group | oxide.group add vip |
| Make it with a title and rank | oxide.group add vip VIP 0 |
| Grant a permission to the group | oxide.grant group vip epicstuff.use |
| Put a player in the group | oxide.usergroup add Wulf vip |
| Take a player out | oxide.usergroup remove Wulf vip |
| Revoke from the group | oxide.revoke group vip epicstuff.use |
| List the group’s members and permissions | oxide.show group vip |
| List all groups | oxide.show groups |
| Delete the group | oxide.group remove vip |
A group can inherit from another: oxide.group parent vip default gives vip everything default has.
The two built in groups
Oxide makes two groups for you. default holds every player who connects. admin holds every player the server recognises as an admin through ownerid. So oxide.grant group default myplugin.use gives a permission to everyone, and oxide.grant group admin myplugin.use to your admins. New admins must reconnect before the game gives them admin.
Wildcards
* grants many at once. oxide.grant group admin * gives the group every permission. oxide.grant user Wulf oxide.* gives every permission starting with oxide., which in practice means a single plugin’s prefix. Use them for staff you trust.
Staff permissions are a safer way to share power than full admin. The uMod docs say permissions let staff help without using the game’s own admin tools, such as flying or noclip.
Carbon
Carbon has its own commands: c.grant, c.revoke, c.group, c.usergroup and c.show. On Carbon use the c. commands; the o. shortcuts do not work there. Type a Carbon command with nothing after it and it prints its own syntax, for example c.grant.
Carbon’s built in groups are default, admin and moderator; running c.show groups on a Carbon server prints exactly those three. It adds players to them for you: default to everyone, admin to owners and moderator to moderators. If a player loses that status, the group is taken off the next time they join.
In the ArthOS panel
The panel has no permissions screen. Use the Console tab.
- Open your server and choose Console. The server must be running with Oxide or Carbon.
- Type the command and press Enter.
- Check it worked with
oxide.show user <name>orc.show.
To make someone an admin or moderator in the first place, see add an owner or moderator.
If it does not work
- The permission does not seem to exist. Permissions only exist when a plugin registers them. Check the plugin is loaded on the Plugins page, then run
oxide.show permsand look for the exact spelling. - The player still cannot use the command. Run
oxide.show user <name>to see what they hold. Try their SteamID instead of their name. - They have the permission but the plugin still refuses. Read the plugin’s uMod page for any other requirement.
- A new admin does not get the
admingroup. They need to disconnect and join again. o.commands do nothing. If the server runs Carbon, use thec.commands.
