Three settings control how fast VEIN characters need food, water and rest: Hunger, Thirst and Tiredness. Each is a multiplier and each defaults to 1. A number above 1 makes the need grow faster. A number below 1 makes it grow slower.
What each one does
- Hunger: how fast characters get hungry.
- Thirst: how fast characters get thirsty.
- Tiredness: how fast characters get tired.
At 1 the game runs as normal. At 0.5 a need grows about half as fast. At 2 it grows about twice as fast. The panel accepts 0 to 10. Each setting is separate, so you can make food easy and water hard.
Change them
- Choose Stop at the top right of the server page. The game rewrites its settings files when it stops, so the editor saves only while the server is stopped.
- Open Config Editor and choose the Server settings file.
- In the group Survival, find Hunger, Thirst and Tiredness.
- Type the numbers you want.
- Choose Save. The changes apply when the server starts.
- Choose Start at the top right of the server page.

- Hunger
Hunger, Thirst and Tiredness sit together in the Survival group, with Hunger (1) at the top. In the picture all three are at 1.
These three are in Server settings. Most other gameplay settings are in Game rules.
Ideas
- Easier survival: Hunger and Thirst at 0.5.
- Harder survival: Hunger, Thirst and Tiredness at 1.5 or 2.
- Less chore, same danger: lower only Tiredness.
If it does not work
- Save is greyed out. The server is running. Stop it first.
- No change in the game. Choose Start at the top right of the server page after saving.
- The setting is missing. Check you are in Server settings, not Game rules.
By hand
Edit Vein/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini in Files, only while the server is stopped. These keys are in Game.ini, not Engine.ini. A setting at 1 may be missing from the file. A Windows server’s folder: Not checked on 0.025 as of 27 October 2026.
