In VEIN the power and the water are shut off for good after a number of game days. The defaults are 46 days for the power and 30 days for the water. You can change both in the Game rules file of the Config Editor, in the group World and time. A change applies at the next start. The setting is for the whole world, not for one player.
The settings
- Power goes out after (days) is the number of days until the power is shut off for good. The default is 46.
- Water goes out after (days) is the number of days until the water is shut off for good. The default is 30.
Both settings take a whole number from 0 to 3650. The days are game days on the game calendar. They are not real days.
How long that is
A game day is shorter than a real day. The panel says that at the default Game clock speed of 16, a day takes 90 minutes. Night speed makes the night pass faster, so a whole day and night may be shorter. Not checked on 0.025 as of 27 October 2026: how Night speed changes the length of a whole day and night, and so how many real hours 30 or 46 days take.
By default the clock stops while nobody is on the server, so only the time players spend in the game counts. See VEIN day length to change the clock speed or to keep time running with nobody on.
See where the calendar is
Open the Players page. The game’s date and clock are next to In game.
Change them
- Choose Stop at the top right of the server page. The Config Editor saves only while the server is stopped.
- Open the Config Editor page and the Game rules tab.
- Change Power goes out after (days) (1) and Water goes out after (days).
- Save, then choose Start at the top right of the server page.

To keep the power and water on for longer, use a bigger number. Use 3650 for a very long time.
Not checked on 0.025 as of 27 October 2026: what happens with the value 0, and how the days count when A new world starts on day is not 0.
If it does not work
- Nothing changed. The server was running when you saved, or it was not restarted. Stop it, change the setting, save, and start it again.
- The power or water went out sooner than you thought. The days are game days. A fast clock makes them pass quickly. Check the date next to In game on the Players page.
By hand
The file is Vein/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.ini, in Files. Edit it only while the server is stopped. Not checked on 0.025 as of 27 October 2026: the folder on a Windows server. The keys are in the section [ConsoleVariables]:
