VEIN PvP settings: player damage, raiding, PvE server

Set VEIN to PvE or PvP in the Config Editor: Players hurt players, base damage, Raiding, Offline raid protection and car damage, with each default.

Updated , checked on VEIN 0.025 Hotfix 3

A new VEIN server is player versus player. Players can hurt each other and damage each other’s bases. To make a PvE server, turn off Players hurt players in the Game rules file of the Config Editor, stop the server first, and start it again after you save.

The settings

All of these are in Game rules, in the group Building and PvP.

LabelDefaultWhat it does
Players hurt playersOnPlayers can damage other players.
Players damage basesOnPlayers can damage other players’ bases.
Bases can be damagedOnOff, no base can ever be damaged.
RaidingOnPlayers can raid a base’s utility cabinet.
Offline raid protectionOffOn, a base is safe while its owners are offline.
Cars hurt players1How much a car hurts a player it hits.

Cars hurt players is a number, not a switch. 1 is the game’s normal damage. A number below 1 makes cars hurt less.

Change them

  1. Choose Stop at the top right of the server page and wait until the server is offline.
  2. Open Config Editor and choose Game rules.
  3. Find the settings in Building and PvP, or type the label in the search box.
  4. Change them and choose Save.
  5. Choose Start at the top right of the server page. The new rules apply from this start.
The Building and PvP group on the Game rules file
  1. Players hurt players
  2. Bases decay without a utility cabinet
  3. Raiding
  4. Offline raid protection

A setting that is at its default is not in the file. Turning a setting back to its default removes the line. This is normal for VEIN. See the Config Editor.

A PvE recipe

Set these and leave the rest.

  • Players hurt players: off.
  • Players damage bases: off.
  • Raiding: off, so no player can take a base by raiding its utility cabinet.
  • Offline raid protection: on, if you want a base safe while its owners are offline. This one is optional.
  • Cars hurt players: 0, if you do not want players to be hurt by cars either.

Not checked on 0.025 as of 27 October 2026: whether Players damage bases off already stops raids by itself. Turn Raiding off to be sure.

Zombies are not part of these settings. They are set under Zombies and AI. Bases can be damaged is a different setting: off, no base can ever be damaged. Leave it on unless you want that.

A PvP server with some safety

  • Keep Players hurt players and Players damage bases on.
  • Turn on Offline raid protection, so a base is safe while its owners are offline.
  • Turn off Raiding if you do not want players to raid a utility cabinet. A utility cabinet is the part of a base that keeps it from decaying, so raiding it is how players take a base down.

The help text says only that Raiding lets players raid a base’s utility cabinet. How a raid plays out beyond that is not checked on 0.025.

If it does not work

  • Players still hurt each other. The server was not restarted after you saved, or you changed the file while the server ran and the game wrote its own copy when it stopped.
  • Damage is still done to bases. Players damage bases and Bases can be damaged are two different switches.
  • Save is greyed out. The server is running. Stop it first.

By hand

Open Files and go to Vein/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.ini, with the server stopped. The keys go under [ConsoleVariables]:

  • vein.PvP (Players hurt players), vein.BuildObjectPvP (Players damage bases), vein.BaseDamage (Bases can be damaged), vein.UtilityCabinet.AllowRaiding (Raiding), vein.OfflineRaidProtection (Offline raid protection): 1 is on, 0 is off.
  • vein.Vehicles.Damage.OutgoingPlayerDamage (Cars hurt players): a number, default 1.

A valid PvE example:

[ConsoleVariables]
vein.PvP=0
vein.BuildObjectPvP=0
vein.UtilityCabinet.AllowRaiding=0
