Run an RLCraft server on Minecraft 1.12.2

RLCraft is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. Install it from Add-ons, then Modpacks, give it plenty of memory, and have players use the same version.

Updated , checked on Minecraft Java 26.3

RLCraft is a hardcore survival modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge. Open Add-ons, choose Modpacks, search CurseForge for RLCraft and install it. The panel sets up Forge, the Minecraft version and the Java that go with the pack.

Memory: plan on about 8 GB (the panel’s figure). The author’s 3 to 4 GB is a floor for a nearly empty server.

Its newest file on CurseForge is RLCraft 1.12.2 Release v2.9.3, from 27 June 2023, and the page lists a matching server pack (checked 11 October 2026). The newest release is from 27 June 2023, so there is no newer version to update to as of 11 October 2026.

What the pack is

The author calls it “an incredibly hardcore and semi-realism challenge”. The page says you will “die a lot”. It adds thirst, temperature, a skill system and many new mobs. The pack’s Global Gamerules mod forces the difficulty to Hard and picks a random spawn point within 10,000 blocks. Not checked as of 11 October 2026: whether the Config Editor’s difficulty row changes it.

In the ArthOS panel

  1. Ordering a new server? On the order page choose Modpack, then Choose a modpack, and pick RLCraft. Pick a larger size than a plain server needs. Already have a server? Keep it and open Add-ons.
  2. Choose Modpacks. In Find a modpack, search CurseForge for RLCraft. A result marked “has a server pack” has files made for servers.
  3. Pick the version, then read the plan. It says “Installs Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2” and names the Java it will use. It also shows how many files it downloads, each checked against its checksum, and the memory the pack usually needs.
  4. Memory: the CurseForge page says the default 1 GB is not enough and recommends 3 to 4 GB. The panel’s own estimate is higher: for v2.9.3 its plan said about 8 GB. Treat 3 to 4 GB as the author’s lowest range, and pick a size nearer the panel’s figure if you expect several players.
  5. Tick Start a new world. The panel recommends it, because a world made with other mods almost never loads under a different pack.
  6. Press Install, then start the server and watch the console while the pack loads. A backup is taken first, so this can be rolled back.

For RLCraft v2.9.3 (27 June 2023) the plan on 11 October 2026 read: Forge 14.23.5.2860 for Minecraft 1.12.2, on Java 8, 171 files (338 MB). The pack needs Forge on Minecraft 1.12.2, with Java 8. You do not have to set that up: the panel replaces the server software for you. Not checked on 26.3 as of 11 October 2026: the finished server starting and running.

One setting to check

The pack’s page says enable-command-block=true must be set in server.properties. Without it, certain structures do not generate correctly and are missing villagers. Open server.properties in Files, set the line, save and restart the server.

Players need the same pack

Each player installs RLCraft 1.12.2 with the CurseForge app, at the same pack version as the server. Use the app’s “Install” button on the pack page. The page recommends OptiFine for players. It is not needed on the server.

By hand

  1. Download the RLCraft server pack from the files list of the pack page.
  2. Extract it in your server folder. The pack includes Forge 1.12.2 build 14.23.5.2860, and the page says to use build 2860 or newer.
  3. Start it with about 8 GB of memory (the panel’s figure). The page’s 3 to 4 GB is a floor for a nearly empty server.

If it does not work

  • The server runs out of memory. Give it more. See fix out-of-memory errors.
  • Players cannot join. They run a different pack version. Match the server’s.
  • Odd crashes. The page says not to use VanillaFix or BetterFPS with RLCraft. Remove them if you added them.
  • The server does not start on an old world. Start a new world.
