The Discord page does two things for a Squad server. It keeps a status message in one of your channels, with the player count. And it posts events, such as the server starting or crashing, through a webhook. Both are optional and you can use either one alone.
The status message
The bot keeps one message in the channel up to date, once a minute. For Squad it shows:
- Players, as a count, for example
64/100 - Status: Online, Starting, Not answering, Stopping or Offline
- Session uptime, while the server is up
- Updated, the time of the last refresh
- Address, only if you turn on Show the join address
The bot can also rename the channel so the player count shows in the channel list.
The count comes from the panel’s own connection to the game server, so it is the live player count while the server runs. When the server is stopped the message shows it as offline.
In the ArthOS panel
You do three things before you can link a channel. The page lists them under “What linking a channel needs”.
- Add the bot to your Discord server. Use the Add the bot button.
- Link your account. Use Link your account, so the panel can check that you run that Discord server.
- In Discord, right-click the channel, choose Copy Link, and keep the link.
Then link the channel:
- Open your server, then Discord.
- Under Channels, choose Link a channel.
- Paste the link into Channel link or ID.
- Under The channel name, turn on Rename the channel to show the server if you want the count in the channel name.
- Choose Link channel. The page says “Linked. The status message is posted and updates every minute.”
A server can link up to 3 channels. The page shows how many you use, for example “1 of 3”.
Choose how the channel is named
With renaming on, Name to show is the name used in the channel. Leave it empty to use your server’s name. Format lays out the channel name from parts: Icon, Name, Players, Queue and Map. The default is Icon, Name, Players.
For Squad, keep to Icon, Name and Players. The panel fills Queue and Map only for Arma Reforger, so on a Squad server they stay empty. The Preview on the page shows what the channel will be called.
Discord limits how often a channel can be renamed. The panel renames at most every 11 minutes, or every 5 minutes when the server goes up or down. The bot needs the Manage Channels permission in Discord. Discord also writes a text channel’s name in lower case with dashes.
To change a link later, choose Edit. Update now refreshes the message at once. Unlink deletes the status message from the channel and stops updating. The channel name stays as it is.
Event posts
This part uses a webhook you make in your own Discord, so no bot is needed.
- In Discord, open the channel’s settings, then Integrations, then Webhooks, then New Webhook, then Copy Webhook URL.
- In the panel, open Discord and find Event posts.
- Paste the address into Webhook URL. It starts with
https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. - Under Post when the server, tick what you want: Starts, Stops, Crashes, Finishes a backup, Gets an AI assistant request to approve.
- Choose Save, then Send a test and check the channel.
Events are posted within 20 seconds. If Discord refuses the webhook, the page shows “Posting stopped” with the reason. Save a working webhook URL to start again. Remove stops all posts. The webhook itself stays in your Discord until you delete it there.
These five events are all the panel posts. It does not post chat, kills or match results to Discord.
If it does not work
- The page says the panel has no Discord bot. The panel’s bot is not set up on this panel, so status channels are off. Ask support.
- The panel cannot check who runs a Discord server. Ask support to link the channel for you.
- The channel name is not changing. The bot needs Manage Channels. Renaming is also slow on purpose, so wait 11 minutes.
- The player count reads 0. Check the server is running. The count comes from the running server.
- No event posts arrive. Choose Send a test. If it fails, create a new webhook and save its URL.
