VEIN server mods: what works and what to use instead

VEIN has no server mods yet, and Ramjet lists mod support as far future. Use the Game rules in the Config Editor to change how your server plays.

You cannot install mods on a VEIN server today. The game does not support mods on a server yet, and Ramjet Studios lists mod support on their roadmap as far future. Until then, change how your server plays with the Game rules in the Config Editor.

What the Mods page says

Open the Mods page of a VEIN server. It shows the heading “No server mods yet” and explains that VEIN has no support for mods on a server. There is nothing to install and nothing to add there. When Ramjet adds support, this page will list the server’s mods and install new ones.

What to do instead

Most things people want mods for have a setting. Open the Config Editor and choose the Game rules tab. It holds the game’s gameplay settings, grouped by topic: world and time, survival, loot, zombies and AI, building and PvP, and saves. You can change, for example:

  • How fast the game’s day runs.
  • How much loot there is.
  • How hungry and thirsty characters get.
  • How the zombies behave.
  • Whether players fight each other.

How to change a setting:

  1. Stop the server with Stop at the top right of the server page. The game rewrites its files when it stops, over anything changed while it runs.
  2. Open the Config Editor and choose the Game rules tab.
  3. Change the settings you want and choose Save.
  4. Choose Start at the top right of the server page. The changes apply at the start.

If it does not work

  • A player cannot join. Check first that they run the same version of the game as the server. Players on other versions cannot join unless the setting Players on other versions is on. See VEIN version mismatch.
  • You want the Mods page to install something. It cannot yet. Check Ramjet’s roadmap for news.
