mcMMO on your Minecraft server: skills and commands

mcMMO adds RPG skills such as mining and swords that level up as players use them. Its price and versions, the main commands, and the XP settings to change.

Updated , checked on Minecraft Java 26.3

mcMMO gives every player RPG skills, such as Mining, Swords and Herbalism. A skill levels up as the player uses it, and each level unlocks bonuses. It is a paid plugin for Spigot and Paper servers, and the version SpigotMC lists as ideal is for Minecraft 26.2, not 26.3.

Players type /mcstats to see their skills. You change how fast they level in experience.yml.

Price and versions

  • Price. The official mcMMO on SpigotMC is marked premium, which means a paid download; the author sets the price. The author writes on that page that mcMMO “is worth the premium price tag”. The installation page on mcmmo.org says the source code is freely available on GitHub.
  • Newest version. 2.3.002, updated on 26 September 2026.
  • Minecraft versions. The SpigotMC page lists “Ideal MC Version: 26.2.X or 1.21.X” and says it “also works with: 1.20.5 or higher”. The mcmmo.org installation page says current releases support “Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer” on Spigot, Paper and Folia. Minecraft 26.3 is not named on either page.

The panel cannot install mcMMO on 26.3. In Add-ons, Plugins, SpigotMC’s “[Official] mcMMO - Original Author Returns!” says “No build of this is made for this server’s version and loader.”, and the other sources show nothing, so you add the jar by hand. Not checked on 26.3 as of 11 October 2026: whether mcMMO 2.3.002 runs on 26.3. If you already own it, the 26.2 build may still work, but an older build can cause bugs or lag. Take a backup first and read when a plugin has no build for your version.

Install by hand

  1. Download mcMMO.jar from the SpigotMC page, after you buy it.
  2. In Files, open the plugins folder and choose Upload, then Upload from computer.
  3. Restart the server. Type plugins in the Console. mcMMO should be green.
  4. In game, type /mcmmo to check it answers.

To update, replace the jar with the new one and restart. The installation page says you are never required to delete data or configs.

Commands for admins

Each needs a permission, for example mcmmo.commands.addxp. Give it to staff with a permissions plugin. See LuckPerms.

/mmoeditEdits a player’s skill values
/skillresetResets your own skill levels
/xprateShows or changes the XP rate, or starts an XP event

/mcpurgePurges players with power level 0 or inactive for months

/addxp, /addlevels and /mmoedit accept -s as the last word to stay silent.

Change how fast players level

mcMMO keeps its files in the plugins/mcMMO folder. Do not delete the folder: by default it also holds player data. These values are from the default files in mcMMO’s source repository, so check them against the files on your server.

In experience.yml:

  • Experience_Formula, Curve: LINEAR or EXPONENTIAL. Linear costs base + (level * multiplier) XP per level, with base: 1020 and multiplier: 20 by default.
  • Multiplier, Global: XP in every skill is multiplied by this. The default is 1.0, and 2.0 gives twice as much.
  • Skill_Multiplier: the same idea for one skill, for example Swords: 1.0. 0.5 gives half.
  • Cumulative_Curve: when true, a player’s power level, not the skill level, sets the cost of the next level. The default is false.

In config.yml:

  • General, Power_Level_Cap: a limit on total levels. 0 means no limit.
  • Each skill under Skills has a Level_Cap. 0 means no limit.
  • General, Save_Interval: minutes between saves of player data. The default is 10.

Save the file and restart the server. The file’s own comment warns that invalid values in Linear_Values stop mcMMO from starting, so read the Console after a restart.

If it does not work

  • mcMMO is red in plugins. Read the first error in logs/latest.log. The usual cause is a build made for a different Minecraft version.
  • /mcstats says you have no permission. Give the node mcmmo.commands.mcstats.
  • Skills level too fast or too slow. Change Global or Skill_Multiplier in experience.yml.
  • An edit seems ignored. Restart the server, and keep the YAML spacing exactly as it is in the file.
