Minecraft has no mute command, and the panel has no mute button for a Minecraft server. To mute a player you need a moderation plugin. On 26.3 the only build of LibertyBans the panel offers is a beta. A player can also hide another player’s chat for themselves, without any plugin. Until you have one of these, the tools you have are kick and ban.
Option 1: a moderation plugin
A plugin adds /mute and /unmute. Which plugin you can use depends on your Minecraft version.
EssentialsX has a mute command: /mute <player> [datediff] [reason]. Its 2.22.0 release adds /unmute <player>. But EssentialsX 2.22.0 supports Minecraft up to 26.1.2, and the panel has no build of it for 26.3 as of 11 October 2026. See install EssentialsX for your options. A build made for an older version may still work, but it can cause bugs or lag.
LibertyBans is a punishment plugin with bans, mutes, kicks and warnings. On Modrinth, its newest release, 1.2.0-M1 (22 September 2026), lists Minecraft 26.3. It is marked as a beta. The newest stable release, 1.1.4, lists versions up to 26.2. On 11 October 2026 the panel’s Modrinth list showed LibertyBans with an Install button, and 1.2.0-M1, marked “Newest Beta”, was the only build offered for 26.3. Not checked on 26.3 as of 11 October 2026: how 1.2.0-M1 runs on a live server.
Install LibertyBans in the ArthOS panel
- Open Add-ons, then Plugins. Under Find plugins choose Modrinth and search for
LibertyBans. - Choose Install. For 26.3 the list holds one build,
1.2.0-M1, marked “Newest Beta”. Pick it. - Choose Restart now when the page offers it.
If the search shows no LibertyBans, the panel has no build for your exact version. See install plugins.
Mute and unmute
The commands are typed in game chat with a /. The format is /mute <player> [time] <reason>.
/mute Steve Spamming the chatmutes Steve for good. The documentation says that with no time, the punishment is permanent./mute Steve 1h Spamming the chatmutes Steve for one hour./unmute Stevelifts the mute./mutelistlists the active mutes.
The time is a number and a unit: m minutes, h hours, d days or mo months. Add -s to do it silently, so the staff notice is not sent. The documentation shows it after the name or after the time, for example /mute Steve 1h -s Spamming.
Give moderators the permission
Every command needs libertybans.commands. Muting needs libertybans.mute.do.target.uuid and unmuting needs libertybans.mute.undo.target.uuid. Listing mutes needs libertybans.list.mutelist. Give them to your moderators group with a permissions plugin. See LuckPerms.
Option 2: the player hides the chat for themselves
This does not mute anyone for everyone. It is a choice each player makes.
- In game, press
Pto open the Social Interactions screen. In a multiplayer game it also opens from the Player Reporting button in the pause menu. - The wiki says the All tab lists the players who have joined and the Hidden tab lists the players whose chat messages are hidden. Not checked on 26.3 as of 11 October 2026: the exact button that hides a player.
The Minecraft Wiki also lists a Chat option in the chat settings: Shown, Commands Only or Hidden. Hidden hides the chat on all servers.
Players can report a message from the same screen. The Minecraft Wiki says Mojang staff review reports, and that most public third-party servers do not have in-game player reporting enabled. Not checked on 26.3 as of 11 October 2026: whether a Loafhosts server allows it. Do not count on it.
If it does not work
/mutesays unknown command. The plugin did not load. Read the start of the Console for errors that name it, and see plugin will not load.- “You do not have permission”. Give the player the permissions above.
- A muted player can still chat. Check the plugin’s mute list with
/mutelist, and check that the mute has not run out. - Two plugins answer
/mute. The LibertyBans documentation says a command can conflict when another plugin has the same command, and the server then picks one. It suggests/libertybans muteto run its own. Use one mute plugin only.
